Farah Baber

As an artist, I am inspired by nature and patterns. I am interested in making art that is expressive by nature and contains narrative elements. I work primarily in drawing, painting, and printmaking. Whether figurative or abstract most of my work is about nature and patterns, its space, structure, and content. I am inspired by my travels, ethnic heritage, exotic cultures, and daily walks in every season that have provided me with the imagery which feeds into my artwork. I enjoy making stylised and playful patterns using methods such as drawing, painting, printmaking and procreate (digital form). I want to make art that is uplifting and gives a sense of positivity to the viewer. My work explores contrasts in both feeling and the physicality and this is represented using bold colour and unexpected colour combinations that harmoniously balance the artwork and bring a sense of joy to any space they may inhibit.

Currently I have been exploring patterns from diverse cultures that are inspired by nature and faith. For my final major project, I wanted to push myself to learn a modern style of art that I am really interested in but unfamiliar with which is digital illustrative art, so I learnt how to use procreate and have been creating designs using this method.

I have taken inspiration from the Andalusian period, Islamic geometric patterns, Arabic calligraphy, design, and architecture of mosques from the Andalucian period, Turkish ottoman rugs, textiles, and ceramics. I am also investigating photography and various mixed media styles of art as a way of evolving my work.
